Canada has recently announced changes to the Canadian Post Graduation Work Permit Eligibility, effective from 01 November, 2024.
The Canadian government announced further details regarding upcoming eligibility for Canada’s Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program. As of November 1, all current and future PGWP applicants will need to prove they meet new language level requirements when they apply for PGWP.
For all students who submit their study permit application on or after November 1 :
- University students (in bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD programs) must prove they meet level 7 language requirements* when they apply for PGWP, but all fields of study remain eligible for PGWP.
- College students (or any student not included in the above) must prove they meet level 5 language requirements* when they apply for PGWP, and must graduate from an eligible field of study in order to qualify for PGWP.
Currently eligible fields of study include agriculture, healthcare, STEM, trade, and transport.
Current students, or those who apply for a study permit before November 1, are not impacted by new PGWP field of study eligibility rules.
If you have study permits that need to be processed, submit those applications as soon as possible (before November 1).
For students who may be affected, submit their program applications as soon as possible so they may still be able to apply for their study permit before November 1.
