Established in 1869, University of Otago is based in Dunedin and is the old university of New Zealand. During 2011 the university had over 22,000 students enrolled for various graduates and post graduates courses. The university has gained an international reputation for its high quality teaching and research. It has country’s highest average research quality. The university in the year 2006 topped the New Zealand’s performance based research fund assessment. It has the utmost satisfaction scores of any university in New Zealand for the international student experience. It is one among the only two universities of New Zealand to be placed in top 200 universities in QS World University rankings. Moreover, in 2014 as per QS subject rankings this university had about eleven subjects in the top 100 and that include Psychology (19th), Literature and English Language (28th), and more. Otago is committed to provide high quality education and its motto is “Dare to be wise” (Sapere aude”)

Campus

  • Otago’s main campus is based in Dunedin with further campuses for health sciences and medical in Wellington and Christchurch. The Dunedin campus includes mainly the central administration and divisions related to Humanities, school of Business or commerce, sciences, and health sciences.The lively campus, great societies and active clubs, and the exciting city of Dunedin offer opportunities to immerse students in New Zealand’s academic life.
  • The Christchurch campus is centered at the Christchurch School of Medicine and Health sciences. Availabilities at this campus include; Health sciences, clinical training, clinical education, school of medicine, school of physiotherapy, research, postgraduate education and distance education.
  • The Wellington campus also has the same courses as are available in Christchurch campus. The university has a Willington city office that is based for; student recruitment, international, summer school, research and enterprise, university Alumni and more.
  • The Auckland campus includes distance education, course information and liaison, children’s issues, and dietetics.
  • The University of Otago has its campus also in Invercargill. This campus now offers a range of teacher education learning programme in secondary, Primary Bilingual, Primary, and Early childhood.
