The Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) received the university status in 1992 and currently it has over 25,000 enrolled students and 3,000 staff members. The university also offers a range of 250 courses inclusive of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

The university offers courses such as Architectural Engineering, Applied Psychology, applied sports psychology, architectural engineering and accounting, animal behaviour, accounting and finance along with postgraduate research in the faculty of arts, education, science, technology and environment.

With its urban campus located in Liverpool, in 2013, the Times Higher Education ranked among the 100 under 50, giving it 72nd position.


The LJMU mainly functions in three separate campuses.

  • City Campus that houses many faculty buildings in and around the city centre. It is walking distance from the Liverpool Museum and the City library. The city campus is an a modern campus that has a 300-seat Marybone lecture theatre, Avril Robarts library, engineering and science workshops and school of the built environment. Many of these buildings have garnered awards for their unique architecture.
  • I.M Marsh Campus is located at the south of city centre. The campus is spread of the 7.5 hectares of land. It is a home to the Faculty of Community, Law and Leisure. It has got state of the art facilities such as Gymnasium, research laboratories, library, teaching rooms and dance studio along with a sports hall and a drama theatre and studio.
  • The Mount Pleasant Campus has several buildings that are listed to have architectural or historical interest. This particular campus houses faculties such as Business and law, Arts, professional and social studies and Liverpool School of Art and Design. It has the multi-media library along with LJMU business information centre. The school of Art and Design has many facilities such as 3D workshops, Photographic Suits and the café etc.

Student Facilities:

  • The scholarships are mainly offered to full time domestic and EU undergraduate students. The funding received can be worth up to £10,000. The sports scholarships or academic excellence scholarships are also offered among many others.
  • Even international students based on their academic excellence can receive several scholarships from LJMU. Mostly these scholarships are in the form of tuition fee waivers.
  • All international students get bedrooms in the facility approved by the LJMU. Students enrolled in the I.M. Marsh Campus will also get a guaranteed accommodation in the city centre from where they can easily travel to the campus. The LJMU promises an affordable and secured accommodation with proper legal tenancy contracts.

Transport and Location:  

  • LJMU promotes cycling and considers it as an integral part of the life on all of their campuses. They provide washing, equipment locker facilities. They are also in the process of installing Citybank Hire Scheme on the key locations of the university. The faculty and students are encouraged to travel on their bicycles in the campus.
  • Accommodations nearby make walking also possible for students and also all the campuses are pedestrian friendly hence make the transport environment friendly.
  • The campus can also be easily reached by public transport such as buses, trains, taxis etc. LJMU also offers car parking to students and faculty.
